The Graterford State Prison is a maximum-security prison in Graterford, PA. It has gone through a lot of name changes over the years- you might recognize Graterford Penitentiary or Graterford State Correctional Institution as well.

How You Can Visit
If you want to visit the Graterford State Prison, you will need to know what times are acceptable. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 8:30 am to 3 pm are visiting hours. While you can also stop in on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8:30 am to 3 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm.
Each inmate has different days of the week that visitors can come to see them. You will want to contact the Graterford State Prison directly to find out what days you are allowed to schedule a visit. The staff split the days of the week up among different housing units to ensure that everyone has a chance to see their visitors.
The facility wants you to allow for a one hour visit, which means that you should be at the facility two hours before the visiting room is to close that day.
You will need to be approved in the facility’s system before you can attend a visit. You need to make sure that you also have a proper photo ID on hand when you come to the facility. Without one, you will likely not be allowed to enter the building.
Finally, it is important that you know you cannot bring the inmate any of their belongings or gifts during the visit. Doing so might mean that you are removed from the approved visitor list and not allowed to return in the future.
How You Can Send Mail
Inmate mail is sent to a processing area first before the inmate receives it. There it is opened and scanned, then emailed to the prison center. The inmates then view their printed mail.
When you send mail, you will want to include the inmate’s full name and correctional ID number at the top of the envelope. After that, you can put the institution’s address like you normally would for other types of mail.
Finally, make sure that your full name and the return address is clearly written on the envelope as well. Without this information, the inmate might not be allowed to see the letter.
In PA, inmates are allowed to have up to 25 photos per mailing. Make sure that you do not go above this number, or the chances are that they will not receive them.
