Dauphin County Prison, PA Inmate Search, Visitation Hours
|Location||501 Mall Road, Harrisburg, PA, 17111|
The Dauphin County Prison is a medium level prison located in Harrisburg, PA. It is run by the Dauphin County Sheriff’s office and typically holds prisoners awaiting a trial or sentence. That means that many of them do not stay there very long.
The facility has an average population of 1,000 people and says they work hard to ensure a secure environment for both inmates and the local staff.
Programs that professionals design are offered by the facility to assist offenders with addictions or to learn new skills. All of the counseling sessions or other activities are for helping the inmate reenter their community with ease.
There are also inmate work crews that provide services to the community while also giving inmates a chance to learn new skills. These services include litter clean up, soup kitchens, and clearing away snow.
The Dauphin County Prison believes that offering these programs will help the inmates become better people and give them a way to give back to their community.
If you know someone housed here, there are ways that you can reach out. We compiled all of the essential information in this guide.
How to Conduct an Inmate Search
Are you trying to find someone who might be housed here? The Dauphin County Prison publishes all of their detainee information publically, so you can find it easily online. We recommend that you check out this Inmate/Parolee Locator.
It contains data on each inmate and parolee that is in the Department of Corrections. The inmate’s location does not indicate if they are receiving any treatment or are in any programs. Plus, the website says that inmates who do not live in PA can not be found using this method.
The Department of Corrections updates this information every day. That way, you can feel confident knowing that it is accurate.
You Can Send Them Mail
Once you know if the state houses the inmate at the Dauphin County Prison, you can send them mail. This includes letters, photos, magazine subscriptions, postcards, and more.
When you fill out the envelope, make sure that the inmate’s full name and ID number are above the mailing address for the Dauphin County Prison. Additionally, you will want to have your name and return address on the envelope. Failure to do so means that the letter might not make it all the way to its intended recipient.
Sending an Inmate Funds
Inmates need to have money in their commissary accounts if they want to buy postage and stationary to respond to your letters. Plus, the money can be used by them to purchase snacks and hygiene items.
If you want to send money to an inmate in PA, you will need to contact the Dauphin County Prison first. Ask the staff member who answers for the inmate’s correctional ID- you are going to need it.
You can visit a MoneyGram location now to send money. Give the agent the inmate’s correctional ID, their full name, your full name, and the Dauphin County Prison code. Then, you just need to let them know how much money you would like to send to the inmate’s account.
Video Visitation Services
In person visits are currently suspended due to the pandemic. However, the Dauphin County Prison is providing free video visits. The intention is to keep inmates in touch with their family and friends.
The service provider is GTL, so you will first need to set up an account with them on their website, or you can even call them to complete this step. The free video calls are allowed to be up to 15 minutes long per week.
When in person visits are running, they are non-contact and through a glass window. The visitation times would be as follows:
Monday 9 am – 6 pm
Tuesday 9 am – 6 pm
Wednesday 9 am – 6 pm
Thursday 9 am – 6 pm
Friday 9 am – 6 pm
Inmates are allowed to have two visitors per day. However, you will want to contact the prison and ask about their video visit guidelines. That way, you know exactly what to expect the next time you receive a call from an inmate at this facility.
The prison asks that you dress appropriately and are signed in 15 minutes before the visit is to take place.
