The Department of Corrections in Maine is only concerned about the offenders.
The offenders that get formally convicted in front of a judge and jury that get sent to a state-mandated facility are the ones that the Department of corrections is concerned about. The Department of Corrections is a massive department with a lot on its taskbar.
Please do not get confused with the city and county-operated correctional facilities. The Maine Department of Corrections does not have jurisdiction over them either.
The Maine Department of Corrections employs many correctional officers. These officers work throughout all of the facilities. They go through training at least once every year. The training is mandatory for all that continue to work with the Department.
The Maine Department of Corrections plans to add more programs for their inmates in the coming years.
