The Islands of Hawaii even has its own Department of Public Safety. The Department of Public Safety was put in place to help efficiently manage their state-operated prisons, along with their parole and probation programs. They try and narrow this down to help better monitor their processes.
The Hawaii Department of Public Safety has a lot of processes and protocols that they follow. These processes and protocols are put in place, so every facility runs the same way. They want to give the best care to their offenders. They can do this by having uniform rules across the board while also offering some of the states’ best programs.
Typically, everyone in the custody of the Hawaii Department of Public Safety is a resident of Hawaii. There are a few people who are not, but that typically is not the case.
All correctional officers that work for the Department of Public Safety will go through training every year as long as they want to be employed. This training is universal for everyone involved. This training will allow everyone to get the same briefings and be up to date on the new standards that the Department is putting in place. Training is mandatory. If you don’t want to follow through with the exercise, you will get fired.
