The Hillsborough County Jail Division I is located in Tampa, FL. It has a max capacity of 1711 beds and a medium security level. The facility houses adults, who usually only stay there for less than two years. Most inmates are awaiting a trial, so they are not there for long.

There is plenty that you will need to know if you want to stay in contact with someone in this facility. We gathered all of the most crucial facts here. That way, you can contact them using the method that is most comfortable for you.

First, we recommend that you use an inmate locator. These tools often provide you with some details that are good to know. Let’s get started.

Conducting a Facility Search

The Hillsborough County Jail Division I publishes the records of inmates publically; this means that you can easily find the data that you need.

The county’s official database only lists people that are currently in the jail and does not mean that they have been convicted of a crime. The site is updated every half hour, and the information on an individual stays there for 90 days after they are released.

You will want to have some basic information to complete the search. Having the inmate’s booking number or full name will help with this.

The Visitation Process

You can visit the inmate at the Hillsborough County Jail Division I as well. They hold their visitations at 1202 Orient Road in Tampa. The visiting hours are as follows:

Monday 9 am – 6 pm

Tuesday 9 am – 6 pm

Wednesday 9 am – 6 pm

Thursday 9 am – 6 pm

Friday 9 am – 6 pm

All visits are non-contact and will be conducted through a glass window. You will also want to make sure that you schedule your visit with the jail at least one week beforehand. Visit hcsovisit.com/app to create your account and schedule your first visit.

Every inmate can have one adult visitor, but keep in mind that no one younger than 18 is allowed to visit at the facility.

Inmates can have up to three scheduled visits in a single week. If a visitor does not show up or does not cancel within 24 hours of their visit, the facility will still count it as one scheduled visit towards the inmate’s allowed amount.

You will need to check-in within 15 minutes of the visitation time. If you do not, the visit might be canceled by the staff.

Due to COVID, there are also some additional procedures you will want to be aware of. The jail staff will check your temperature, and you might have to fill out a questionnaire. You will also need to bring a face mask with you.

Finally, you will want to dress appropriately and not be disruptive during your visit. Staff is allowed to end the visitation early, and they could ban you from coming back for future visits.

Video Visits

Video visitations are becoming more popular within the detention center. If you would like to participate, the set up is simple.

The jail’s at home visiting hours are between 9:30 am and 8:50 pm every day. Inmates can have one visit a day, and the cost is $8.00 for a one 20 minute session.

Make sure that you have an account at hcsovisit.com/app. You will need to visit that website to schedule and participate in the video call. Finally, you will need to have a valid debit or credit card associated with your account, as there is a charge to video visit an inmate.

Sending an Inmate Letters

You may also want to send an inmate mail. To do so, you will want to follow all of the guidelines that the Hillsborough County Jail Division I has. First, all incoming mail needs to be in the form of a postcard, unless it is from an attorney.

You will want to include the inmate’s full name and ID number over the facility’s mailing address. Then, make sure you have your own name and return address present on the postcard as well.

The post card’s size needs to be between 3 1/2 x 5 inches and 6 1/8 x 11 inches. If it is bigger or smaller than those sizes, it will not be accepted. Do not draw or paint on the postcard or add stickers.

Finally, communicating with the inmate through the mail is always allowed, so feel free to send them mail at any time. Keep in mind that your mail is checked for contraband and inappropriate content.
