California State Prison – Corcoran, popularly known as CSP Corcoran, is a male state correctional facility in Corcoran city, Kings County, California. It is also referred to as CSP-C, CSP-COR, Corcoran State Prison, Corcoran I, and CSP-Corcoran. This facility is a complex of several facilities with a total capacity of around 3,116 offenders. Each facility houses different types of inmates at different levels with different privileges and programs.

  • Philip Garrido; incarcerated for kidnapping Jaycee Lee Dugard in 1991 and holding her hostage until 2009

Sending a Mail/Package

California state prison inmates are permitted to send or receive up to 10 pages of mail from their friends and family. However, the mails are strictly inspected before being delivered to the inmates to avoid smuggling of contrabands or any other illegal items. The mails can also come with up to 10 attached pictures that fall in line with the facility’s guidelines. No nudity or coded pictures are allowed.

Newspapers and magazines or softcover books are also allowed, but this have to be sourced directly from the publisher.

Sending Money

Inmates at this prison are allowed to buy commissaries that are not part of the facility’s provisions. To buy this, they are expected to have a commissary account funded by their loved ones. You can send money to an inmate’s account through the following avenues:

Phone Calls

An outsider cannot directly call an inmate, but an inmate can make calls to an approved list of contacts. Inmates are not allowed to have personal cellphones at this facility. The call services in California correctional facilities, including California state prison, are provided by Global Tel Link (GTL).

The call arrangements are prepaid and collect. Visitations

Inmates at Corcoran state prison are allowed to receive visitors on designated days but under strict guidelines. The visiting days are Saturday and Sunday between 7 am and 3 pm. Visitors are also allowed on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, and July 4th holidays.

Visitors are advised to engage the facility’s authorities before visiting to familiarize themselves with the visiting rules. Moreover, a visitor is expected to be on an inmate’s approved visiting list to be allowed an audience with him.

Visitors are allowed contact, non-contact, and family visits. Contact visits entail meeting your loved one in a general population area furnished with chairs and tables. You are permitted to hold hands, kiss briefly, or hug. This type of visit is restricted to five visitors per session.

Non-contact visits are reserved for inmates in ADSEG or intake. The visitor and the inmate are separated by a glass partition.

Inmates are also allowed 30-40 hour family visits once every three to five months. These visits are held in apartment-like facilities present in this prison. Only close family members are allowed.

In all the types of visits, both the inmate and the visitors are expected to follow the recommended rules and regulations. An inmate can lose his visitation privileges if they go against these rules. The rules are clearly laid out on one of the facility’s website pages.
